Course Response - Feb. 10

So far in class we have done a few things, maybe more than I had initially recognized when starting this post.

First, we have done LOTS of multiple choice practice questions. Here's what I have learned:
1. I don't like multiple choice questions on a piece of work that can be widely interpreted
2. You know those really annoying people who pick the opposite answer and your all "are you dumb?" yeah. I struggle. For some odd reason, I tend to eliminate most but sometimes think too much and don't know which extreme to choose. So... something to work on in the future.
3. I need to slow down. My normal reading pace is really fast, so I have lots of time to answer questions. But... I feel like my normal pace isn't enough, I speed up... and then I miss information. Really, there is plenty of time. No need to speed.

We have also finished Hamlet. I really liked watching all of the movies, but now I am kind of sick of it all. Which makes me liking Rozencrantz and Guildenstern so much kind of ironic. You would think even more Hamlet characters would drive me insane.

The reason I like it so much probably has to do with all of the sexual innuendos, though. Let's be honest... we all love a good joke. It's also pretty funny because Megan and I are reading the parts of Ros and Guild... and there are some similarities. I mean we are close friends and we have a lot of meaningless conversations for starters. We aren't dumb and don't encourage prostitution... but the way Holmes introduced the characters just made Megan and me chuckle.

Anyway, I look forward to finishing this play, as it might be a favorite.

  1. Hey Alexis,
I will gladly join you on the MC struggle bus, because I seem to have the same problem! Too. Much. Thinking. At least more practice will purge us of this habit? ha ha, I do feel that each time I improve a bit more, which is nice since I felt I was on a stand still for so long!

I am glad you enjoyed and R and G, did the movie change your view at all?

  2. I have some of the same multiple choice problems, including the speed reading issue. I feel like the best way to get over those issues is god forbid do a lot more. When it comes to Hamlet did the movies change your way of thinking about the play? I know that the movies added a lot of emotions to the play that I didn't even know where there. I also found many connections to Hamlet from out previous books, such as Willy and Hamlet, and thir struggle to live when they both saw death as a relief from the burdens of life. Did you see any connections there or even with other characters? I think that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are very entertaining, but the oh so many levels of the play confuses me, but annotating did help me understand the main ideas and themes more thouroughly. Now that we're done with the play did you enjoy it as much as you thought you would?

  3. Hey Alexis,
First off, I like how your response is straight-forward and easy to read. I've always seen a paragraph writing for this, including myself, but I do like this better. You also did a nice job reflecting so that you can take away some tips in the future. I have the totally opposite problem; I read really really slow, and i always end up guessing the last set of questions because I don't even get the time to read it. As for the MC questions, I'm struggling quite a bit as well. I always wish that I knew much more vocab while taking the tests. Now that we finished Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, do you find youself liking it more? less? I do have to agree that it was pretty funny, very absurdist, too!
